Students at HISD's William Irving Stevenson Middle School are getting "Prepared 4 Life"
thanks to a partnership between an organization of the same name and another one
called the Latin Women's Initiative (LWI).
A group of about 40 volunteers from LWI began a mentorship program with Stevenson
students on January 31 through the Prepared 4 Life program, which seeks to empower
middle-school students and encourage them to achieve their dreams.

Keeping intact its mission to serve and empower the latino community of Houston, Mexican Women’s Initiative, will now be known as Latin Women’s Initiative, to better represent the community that it serves.
Join us to celebrate the beginning of another year in our Annual Meeting, that will be held Friday October 6, 2006 al 11:30 a.m. at the Junior League Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane.
Here, we will be presenting the checks with contributions gathered during our annual “very successful” Fashion Show, last may, to the different non-profit organizations selected last year to receive the donations.
Keynote speaker for the event will be Sara Speer Selber who will talk about the many ways we can help our Latino community, and make a difference.
The “Giving Heart” award will be presented for the first time to a “surprise” recipient for their dedication to LWI over the years.
About Latin Women’s Initiative: LWI is a non-profit organization founded in 1997, with one goal, unite Latin American “and Latin at heart” women to work together to foster the development and empower the Latin community. LWI gives both financial and volunteer support to several local non-profit organizations, dedicated to the education, health and wellbeing of the community.
